Program on Ukrainian Terror-Famine and Other Soviet Genocides

Project Directors: Alexander J. Motyl, Alex Hinton, and Taras Hunczak
Graduate Researcher: Gennadi Poberezny, Ph.D. Candidate, Division of Global Affairs

This program seeks to increase our understanding of the genocides and mass human rights violations committed by the Soviet Union, with a particular focus on the genocidal policies that led to the death by starvation of up to seven million Ukrainian peasants from 1932-1933. In addition, the program is concerned with issues of trauma, the politics of memory, diaspora, and cultural genocide during and after the Soviet Union. To this end, the program seeks to sponsor lectures, colloquia, conferences, courses, and educational initiatives related to Soviet genocides.
